• This next build was one I knew I wanted to do and I knew I would do it out of order of how I wanted to approach the new city layout and that’s okay (until I have to redo the height level of the MILS)

This was an awesome set that came out during COVID, I think. It featured mini figures from Lego City Adventures and was a really cool looking auto repair/mod shop. My goal was to take what Lego gave and spice it up a bit. I also wanted to get lights on it, which is still a work in progress.

    Rough cut with lights installed
The shop with the added billboard from Stud Bee
  • The first project of the new city was the lowest elevation point and that is the pier/boardwalk/beach. I wanted to give the frontal view of the city a unique and fun look. The plan is about six or seven mils plates long and a tram line that goes from one end to the other.

The start of the new Sharkville!

I wanted the boardwalk to be filled with food vendors leading to the pier which would have the fun and games aspect. The gift with purchase sets from LEGO were no brainers to start.

The next part I had to figure out was building the tram track into to MILS plate

I wanted the tram track built into the plate versus sitting on top. Plate wise it luckily measured right in and was an easy conversion.

    Next was adding resident houses

I wanted row houses to fill in behind. The proximity to the tram track probably wouldn’t sell well but for space issues, this is where it will be. Layout wise I was feeling good so far. Tiling was the big question mark to figure out next.

I added two more houses, the tram and one more food stand next.

I added the next set of houses to get a feel on space and really liked how it turned out. The water tiling was not going how I wanted and I took a reset on it to rethink.

    First attempt at water tiles
I needed to spread the water more evenly but it was starting to look more proper
I added the next gift with purchase sets, the boardwalk was feeling complete

There’s still two more sets to be released with the restaurants of the world collection. My plan is to line them all up in a row.

    The extension continues out!
I wanted to do something different with the path and laid down the tiled bricks and slid them in
To the left of the houses, I have started a river crossing

This project has definitely had some twists and turns, laying down the masonry brick took some problem solving and then matching the height with the tiles was step two. Having multiple beaches in this city wasn’t in my original plan but now I 100% will have multiple beach areas.

The start of the first beach area. It will be the frontward facing beach so making it look super interesting is extremely important.
This will be the anticipated final look of the row houses – minus needing to touch up the fence look/ I may change that completely still
Tiled split beach with tram in background
Completed view of added tiles, plants and new homeowners
Boardwalk now has fencing to prevent falling in!
  • I’m hoping this blog can showcase the progress of my LEGO city and the builds it takes to get it to where I want it to be. Hopefully can show what works and what doesn’t and can give ideas to your cities as well!

My first project for the ‘new’ Sharkville. I’ll attach videos links to the old city below

My goal with the new city is to make it as dynamic and layered as possible without ruining the overall look.

My old layout, was very flat besides the one raised area and even that I think could be done better.

I want to focus on details with this city, every plate will be MILS and that will allow me to work in parts instead of getting overwhelmed with working on the entire city at once.

One of the few video updates I made during Covid of the original LEGO city.

I’m going to keep the rest of this post short but I’m excited to document this progress because at the end of the day, I’m doing this for me but excited for everyone reading this to see what gets created!
